lyrics

WE DRANK TO SHAMUS

One to nothing in the bottom of the first
The Mets were up as we quenched our Sunday thirst
It was a mild afternoon on the north side of Queens
Shamus walked in from Afghanistan
There was a silence for three seconds, or four
Then we all started jumping for joy
Home from the troubles was the neighborhood boy
As beer was spilt on the floor

CHORUS
We drank to Shamus and we were filled with cheer
Shots were raised in his honor
We all started shouting and pounding the bar
Life was never more precious then now

Six to four in the top of the fifth
The Mets were pounding the ball
Home for a week to help his mother
While his father recovered from the gout
He said he'd seen evil in the hearts of men
In others he seen the Holy Ghost
He said he loved us and this bar of ours
His Dad was going to be ok.

CHORUS

The game was long over and the Mets did win
The crowd dwindled down to a few
Shamus told us stories of the horror and the fright
How faith had got him through
Life was nice and easy on the north side of Queens
The East River breeze blew
The jukebox was playing Metallica
Everyone was singing along!
